Ng Ann Thye, death May 1936, Ipoh

Ipoh, May 2. The death has occurred of Mr. Ng Ann Thye, eldest son of the late Mr. Ng Boo Bee who was a millionaire tin miner 50 years ago owning many tin mines at Kamunting, near Taiping and also many houses at Taiping and Penang. Mr. Ng Ann Thye was a former member of the Taiping Sanitary Board and a committee member of the Taiping Turf Club. He also owned racehorses and served on several public bodies. He had been in ill health latterly. A keen sportsman he frequently took soccer teams from Taiping to play at Penang. The funeral will take place on Wednesday. Tan Lo Heong, death August 1936, Penang

The death of Mr. Tan Lo Heong, J.P., occurred at 16 Anson Road, Penang, on Saturday. He leaves his wife, two sons Tan Swee Teong and Tan Swee Chin, three daughters-in-law and fourteen grandchildren. Mr. Tan Lo Heong was born in 1881 in Province Wellesley. He started rubber planting in 1899 and commenced a mining career in 1923. He was a founder of Kwang Heng Rice Mill at Parit Buntar, now belonging to the F.M.S. Government. [The Straits Times, 28 August 1936, Page 16]

Gnanjah Paul, DEATH January 1936, Penang

DEATH OF MR. G. PAUL. The death has occurred at Penang of Mr. Gnanjah Paul, Tamil Inspector of Schools, Perak, after a long illness. Mr. Paul was the brother-in-law of Mr. Thomas Isaac, Inspector of Police, Singapore, and Mr. Arthur Isaac, Urban Co-operative Officer, Kuala Lumpur. Prior to his appointment as Tamil Inspector of Schools under the Education Department he was a teacher under the Methodist Mission for 11 years. He joined Government Service in 1920. Tan Chuan Keong (Mrs. Ong Heng Moh), death June 1936, Penang

MRS. ONG HENG MOH. Death Of An Old Resident Of Penang. The death of Mrs Ong Heng Moh (Madam Tan Chuan Keong) at the age of 85 took place after a short illness at her residence, 12 Soo Hong Lane, Penang, on Sunday evening. She leaves a son (Mr. Ong Teik Hock), two daughters (Mrs Lim Yeam Cheng and Mrs Ong Choon Seang), 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Tan Ee Neoh (Mrs. Wee Swee Boo), death February 1936, Penang

Cheng Quee Neo (Mrs. Tan Jee Toh)

DEATH. TAN. ---Madam Cheng Quee Neo aged 76, wife of the late Mr. Tan Jee Toh passed away peacefully at her residence No. 15-3 Niven Road on Tuesday, May 26, at 6.30 a.m. She leaves behind 3 sons, 5 daughters, 4 daughters-in-law, 7 great grand sons-in-law, 7 great grand daughters-in-law, 40 grand children, 34 great grand children to mourn their loss. The cortege will leave the residence on Thursday, May 28, at 4.45 p.m. for S.S., Peter & Paul Church, Queen Street and thence to Bidadari Cemetery for interment. Lee Quee Choo, death 7 July 1936, Singapore

Death. LEE.--Mr. Lee Quee Choo passed away peacefully at his residence No. 18, Dublin Road on Thursday, July 7, 1936 at the age of 53, leaving behind his loving wife Quah Cheng Neo, 7 sons, Messrs. Lee Teck Jin, Teck Swee, Teck Oo, Tech Kiat, Teck Chye, Teck Hup, Teck Chee, 11 daughters, 2 sons-in-law Messrs. Lim Kean Cheang and Koh Teck Ee, and 2 grandsons to mourn their loss. Mrs. Loke Yaik Foo, death 31 August 1936, Penang

Khoo Hooi Hye, death July 1936

Penang, July 27. The death has occurred of Khoo Hooi Hye, former lawn tennis champion of Malaya. Khoo Hooi Hye was born at Penang in 1901 and was educated at the Penang Free School. He started playing lawn tennis at the age of 15 and showed a fine aptitude for the game. He won the Penang Chinese Recreation Club championship in 1918 and then for several years following. In 1922 he won the covered court championshop held at Singapore. The following year he took both the Singapore and Malayan titles for the first time. In 1924 he was in England and played at Wimbeldon, also achieving many successes in minor tournaments. Back in Malaya in 1925, Khoo Hooi Hye reigned supreme in lawn tennis here for several years. He took the Singapore title from 1925 to 1929 and the Malayan title from 1925-27 and again in 1929. In recent years Khoo has been living in Shanghai and has represented China in international matches. He was in the national championship final last year, losing to Kho Sin Kie of Java. He has been on many tours with China's leading players, in the Philippines, the Netherlands Indies and other countries. [The Straits Times, 27 July 1936, Page 12]

Boey Toh Ewe, death May 1936, Penang

The funeral of Mr. Boey Toh Ewe, who died at his residence, 30, Muntri Street, Penang, took place on Saturday at the Mount Erskine cemetery.
