Lee Soon Theam, death 31 August 1936, Penang

Penang, Sept. I. A prominent local Chinese, Mr. Lee Soon Theam, died last night after a three days illness. He leaves a widow, five sons and three daughters. The deceased participated in the pagent during the sesquicentenary celebrations of the founding of Penang. He was a trustee of the Seh Lee Kongsi, member of the Chinese Advisory Board, a committee member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese Town Hall, vice-president of the United Hokkien Cemeteries, member of the District Hospital Board, president of the Hor Hoo Seah, trustee of the Nanyang (Cheang Chew) Association, vice-president of the Penang Mutual Improvement Association and vice president of the Corner Club. He was also the founder of the firm of Soon Theam and Co., from which he retired in 1928, and a director of Amagamated Amusements Ltd. [The Straits Times, 1 September 1936, Page 13]
