Khaw Joo Chie, death October 1957, Penang

Penang Fri. --- Rain held up the funeral of Mr. Khaw Joo Chie, Penang millionaire, for nearly two hours today. Scheduled to start from his Northam Road residence at 11 a.m., the funeral did not begin until 12.45. And when it did, the mile-long procession held up traffic along Northam Road. Mr. Khaw, who had been closely associated with Siamese royalty held the rank of "Phya" (lord). [The Straits Times, 12 October 1957, Page 8]
