James Irving, death January 1917, Penang

The death has occurred of Mr. James Irving, Penang's oldest European resident. He came East as an engineer with the P. & O. in 1873. He was a friend of the late SUltan Ahmed Lejubin of Kedah, and took part in the Perak War. Afterwards he became a partner of the firm of Allan Irving, Engineers, etc. Later he joined the firm of Cunningham and Clark.
