Jackson Millar, death June 1929, Glasgow

There will not be a great many here probably who will remember Jackson Millar when he was in Singapore, but the news of his death in Glasgow will none the less affect many even though, he was, to them only a name. Mr. Jackson Millar came out for the old Tanjong Pagar Dock Company and joined Riley, Hargreaves when he was superintendant engineer at the docks. If memory is correct he did not serve under Riley, Hargreaves as a limited Company, having left before the change took place. He was the first President of, and an active member for many years of, the Engineers Association, and left Singapore about 1900. A man of much character he was a fine example of the best of the older generation, a supporter of the Presbyterian Church and of sport and did much in his time to encourage swimming, amongst other recreations.
