The Penang papers announce the death, which occurred at his residence, Jesselton Villa, 17b, Northam Road, on Sunday of Mr. Ong Kim Cheng. He leaves a widow, three sons (Messrs. Ong Hong Kang, Ong Hong Hoe and Ong Hong Tee), three daughters and several grandchildren. Born in Penang, Mr. Ong started life as a school teacher in the local branch of the Anglo-Chinese School. Later he joined the opium farms in Singapore, Sarawak and Sandakan. After the abolition of the farms he became a planter in B.N.B. and after sixteen years as a planter he retired to Penang in June 1926.
